Our History 

HNTGPA formally formed 29 April. First public phone installed at the request of the PA. IN 1957, it was relocated to the Hawks Nest Post Office.

Mrs York establishes the first library in the Hall for community use. Indoor bowls starts - same place and popular! At this point in time, 'the Hall' is a disused army hut purchased for 100 pounds in 1962 and re-located to Booner Street. In 1963 the community handmade and/or donated the chairs and trestle tables at the hall. The piano (still there!) was donated by Mr York in memory of his wide Melda....

News of the Area is started by Peter Richards as a Newsheet. Hawks Nest obtains a water supply. The PA transfers land to Council with $4000 pounds to build the current hall which is completed that same year with the first meeting 14 December 1967. 

Local houses are numbered! and a amazing Cabaret is held at the hall in summer of 1975. 

25 years! The PA celebrates a Silver Jubilee - commemorating new life members and burying a mysterious 100-year time capsule at the front of the Hawks Nest Hall.

First NSW Seniors Festival held at Hawks Nest Community Hall celebrating Australia's oldest demographic.

Second successful Seniors Festival at the old Scout Hall with 45 exhibitos & 1200 participants - & our first Worimi Smoking Ceremony 

On 6 April 1974, the Singing Bridge opened replacing the punt and closely linking Tea Gardens & Hawks Nest. A commemoration is being planned 50 years later in 2024! Stay tuned...
